DHA CBT Exam Specifications: Duration, Questions, Fee and Pass Score by Specialty

DHA does not publish one exam fee, one duration or one pass mark, which is why searching for them returns guesses. It publishes 116 separate specifications, inside a 128-page guideline. All 116 are transcribed below, with the figures DHA omits named as omissions.

Why this is hard to find

There Is No Single DHA Exam Fee

Ask what the DHA exam costs and you will get a number. It will usually be wrong, because DHA has never published one. It publishes a fee per specialty — three values across 116 exams — along with a duration, a question count and a pass score for each, and it does so inside a guideline that its service page links to rather than summarises.

That is a reasonable thing for a regulator to do and a terrible thing for anyone trying to budget. So the table below is simply that guideline, transcribed. Where DHA leaves something out — and it leaves several things out — this page says so instead of filling the gap.

Check the mode before the specification.

Of 731 licensable titles, only 113 route to a computer-based test at all. The other 599 take an oral assessment, which has no question count and no published pass mark.

Which exam your title actually takes

The pattern across all 116

What the Numbers Actually Range Over

Across 116 specifications the pattern is far narrower than the page count suggests. These four facts describe the whole table.

Two durations, and nothing between them

Every exam is either 3 hours or 2 hours. The 2-hour exams are Laser Hair Reduction (both the physician privilege and the technician title), Aesthetician/Beauty Therapist, Operation Theatre Technician and Technologist, and all four TCIM exams. DHA states the published duration includes registration and the process introduction as well as the questions, so it is not pure answering time.

Three question counts: 150, 100 or 70

No other value appears anywhere in the guideline. The 70-question papers are the two Laser Hair Reduction exams. The 100-question papers are the 2-hour exams plus every Consultant-title exam, Specialist Hematopathology and Speech Therapy — which is why a Consultant paper is shorter than a Specialist one while carrying a higher pass mark.

Three fees, all in US dollars

USD 280 for every Physician and Dentist exam, USD 240 for Nursing and most Allied Health, USD 180 for Aesthetician/Beauty Therapist, both Laser Hair Reduction exams, Operation Theatre Technician and Technologist, and all four TCIM exams. DHA publishes no AED equivalent anywhere, so what you actually pay moves with the exchange rate.

Six pass scores, and seniority raises the bar

45%, 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. The 70% band is Specialist Neurosurgery, Specialist Pediatrics, Clinical Pharmacy and all thirteen Consultant-title exams. The lowest, 45%, belongs to a single exam that the guideline itself marks In-active. Format is multiple-choice throughout.

Checked 29 August 2026. DHA states it may activate or de-activate a specialty assessment and change its content, format or pass score without updating this guideline. Confirm the specification for your own specialty before you book.

Read the pass score against the question count. A Consultant paper is 100 questions at 70%, while the Specialist paper in the same field is 150 questions at 60% or 65%. Fewer questions and a higher threshold means less room to absorb a wrong answer, which is the opposite of how most applicants assume seniority works.

How the exam is run

Format, Provider and Result

How the exam itself is run, in DHA's words.

Prometric delivers it, worldwide

DHA states CBTs are managed and run by its partner Prometric, through a network of 8,000 test centres in more than 160 countries. You do not have to be in Dubai to sit one.

Multiple choice, and that is the whole format

The guideline states the exam format is multiple choice questions. There is no practical, written or viva component inside a CBT.

A pass or a fail, never a score

DHA states the result is updated in the applicant's Sheryan account as Pass or Fail and that the applicant's score will not be shared. The pass marks in this table tell you what you must clear, not what you achieved.

Not listed means an oral assessment

The guideline states specialties it does not list are assessed through an oral assessment, giving certain Consultant titles for Physicians and Dentists as its example. A title missing from this table has not been overlooked — it has been routed elsewhere.

Read alongside the table

Where DHA's Own Documents Do Not Line Up

Four things to read alongside the table. Two are DHA's own statements about the table's reliability; two are places where DHA's documents do not line up with each other.

DHA can change any of this without changing the document

The guideline states DHA reserves the right to activate or de-activate a specialty assessment, and to change the assessment content, the exam format or the pass score, without an update in the content of this document. Treat every figure here as current-at-publication rather than guaranteed, and confirm your own specialty before you book.

116 specifications, but only 113 titles actually route to a CBT

The guideline publishes 116 exams. Queried title by title on the same day, DHA's live Mode of Exam per Specialty lookup returned Computer Based Testing for 113 titles. Two of the three differences are documented below. The third sits in the Physician category — 45 specifications against 44 titles returning CBT — and nothing DHA publishes explains which title it is.

Ayurveda Practitioner appears in both routes at once

The guideline carries a full specification for it: code PAY5852, 2 hours, 100 questions, USD 180, 60% pass. The live lookup, queried the same day, returns Oral Assessment for the same title. Both are DHA's. The lookup is the live system and the guideline is dated May 2026 — but DHA does not say which supersedes which, so both are recorded here rather than one being picked.

Assistant Midwife is specified but not offered

Code MID5101, 3 hours, 150 questions, USD 240, and the lowest pass score published anywhere at 45% — but the guideline marks it In-active, and the lookup does not offer the title under Nurse and Midwife at all. DHA does not explain the label. Read that 45% as published-but-inactive rather than as a current threshold.

Neither conflict is resolved here, deliberately. Both the guideline and the lookup are DHA's, published on the same portal and read on the same day. Picking one and presenting it as settled would hide a disagreement that affects real decisions — so both are stated, and the live lookup is the one to check before you book.

The honest gap

What DHA Does Not Publish

Looked for in the CBT Assessment Guideline, the Mode of Exam lookup, the Assessment Manual and DHA's Service Catalogue, and not found. None of it is estimated.

An AED equivalent for any of the three USD exam fees
A syllabus, curriculum or question breakdown for any specialty — the guideline lists references for some specialties only
Duration, question count or pass score for an oral assessment — an oral has no question count and the panel returns pass or fail
Why Assistant Midwife is marked In-active
The Prometric rescheduling fee, which the Assessment Manual calls centre-specific
Exemption criteria naming any specific overseas examination
The missing AED figure is the one that costs people money. DHA prices these exams in US dollars and publishes no dirham equivalent anywhere, so the amount leaving your account depends on the rate and your card issuer on the day. Budget from the dollar figure, not from a dirham number someone quoted you.

Prepare carefully

Common Mistakes With These Figures

Quoting one universal exam fee

There are three, they are specialty-dependent, and they are in dollars. A single AED figure did not come from DHA.

Looking up the wrong title

The specification follows the title you apply under. Check the title first, then the mode, then the row.

Assuming a Consultant paper is easier

It is shorter — 100 questions instead of 150 — and set at 70% rather than 60% or 65%.

Treating the duration as answering time

DHA states the published duration includes registration and the process introduction.

Expecting a score report

Only Pass or Fail reaches your Sheryan account. DHA states the score is never shared.

Trusting a figure without a date

DHA reserves the right to change content, format or pass score without updating the guideline it publishes them in.

Assuming a missing title is an oversight

Specialties the guideline does not list are routed to an oral assessment. Absence is the answer, not a gap.

Preparing before confirming the mode

Four titles in five never sit this exam. A question bank is the wrong preparation for a panel interview.

DHA exam FAQs

Questions About DHA Exam Fees, Duration and Pass Scores

How much does the DHA exam cost?

There is no single DHA exam fee, which is why the question is so hard to answer online. DHA charges in US dollars at three levels: USD 280 for every Physician and Dentist exam, USD 240 for Nursing and most Allied Health, and USD 180 for Aesthetician, both Laser Hair Reduction exams, Operation Theatre Technician and Technologist, and all four TCIM exams. DHA publishes no AED equivalent, so what you pay moves with the exchange rate.

How long is the DHA exam?

Every computer-based exam is either three hours or two hours — no other duration appears across the 116 published specifications. DHA states that time includes registration and the process introduction as well as the questions, so it is not all answering time.

How many questions are in the DHA exam?

One of three values: 150, 100 or 70. The 70-question papers are the two Laser Hair Reduction exams. The 100-question papers are the two-hour exams plus every Consultant-title exam, Specialist Hematopathology and Speech Therapy — so a Consultant paper is shorter than a Specialist one while carrying a higher pass mark.

What is the passing score for the DHA exam?

It depends on the specialty. Six values appear: 45%, 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. The 70% band covers Specialist Neurosurgery, Specialist Pediatrics, Clinical Pharmacy and all thirteen Consultant-title exams. Anyone quoting a single universal DHA pass mark is generalising.

Where do I find the specification for my own specialty?

The table on this page carries all 116, grouped by professional category and in the guideline's own order. If your title is not in it, DHA's stated rule is that specialties not listed in the guideline are assessed through an oral assessment instead.

Will DHA tell me my score?

No. DHA states the result is updated in your Sheryan account as Pass or Fail and that the applicant's score will not be shared. The pass marks here tell you what you have to clear, not what you achieved, so there is no mark to appeal against.

Where is the DHA CBT held?

DHA states its computer-based tests are managed and run by its partner Prometric, through a network of 8,000 test centres in more than 160 countries. You do not need to be in Dubai to sit one. An oral assessment is a different matter — that runs remotely on a DHA-approved platform, though DHA may require attendance in person.

Can these figures change?

Yes, and DHA says so explicitly. The guideline states DHA reserves the right to activate or de-activate a specialty assessment and to change the content, the format or the pass score without updating the document. Treat every figure here as current at the date it was checked, and confirm your own specialty before you book.

Is there a syllabus or question bank?

DHA publishes no syllabus, curriculum or question breakdown. The guideline lists references for some specialties only, and DHA states it provides no references at all for the oral assessment. We do not sell or distribute exam questions, and we would not publish a pass rate DHA has never published.

Why does the guideline list 116 exams when only 113 titles take a CBT?

Because the guideline and the live Mode of Exam lookup do not fully agree. Two of the three differences are documented: Assistant Midwife is fully specified but marked In-active and is absent from the lookup, and Ayurveda Practitioner carries a full specification while the lookup returns Oral Assessment for it. The third sits in the Physician category — 45 specifications against 44 titles returning CBT — and nothing DHA publishes explains which title it is.

Do I even take a CBT?

Probably not. Of 731 licensable titles, DHA's lookup returns a computer-based test for 113 and an oral assessment for 599. The CBT route this page documents is the minority case, and the specification only matters once you have confirmed your own title routes to it.

Can UAEHealthPro tell me which specification applies to me?

We can help you identify the exact DHA title your qualifications and experience fit, then check the mode and the specification against it — which is where most confusion starts, because people look up a title they will not actually be applying under. The figures themselves are DHA's, and DHA can change them without notice.

Not Sure Which Row Applies to You?

Tell us your profession, qualifications and the title you are aiming at. We will work out which DHA title fits, confirm whether it routes to a computer-based test at all, and point you at the specification that governs it.
