Who Needs a CDA Behavioral Analyst Licence?
This page addresses behavioural analysis roles under Dubai’s CDA social care licensing framework. Confirm the facility regulator, proposed title and duties, particularly when the job advert uses a broader label such as ABA therapist.
The Analyst and Assistant categories have different degree-level and subject requirements. Present the relevant behavioural-analysis specialisation or programme as well as the base degree; a general degree name can leave that part of the review unresolved.

Make the specialisation visible
A general degree name can leave a specific question unanswered
Illustrative situation: an applicant has an education degree and additional ABA study, while the employer proposes Behavioral Analyst. The useful question is whether the complete academic pathway meets that category or requires consideration under Assistant Behavioral Analyst. Present both the degree and programme details; do not describe a short course as a new degree.
Ask the university for the transcript or programme description needed to explain the relevant content. Keep the award name exactly as issued, including on translations. Where recognition remains uncertain, request a category review before committing to training costs.
Before CDA will license you
Behavioral Analyst Takes the Training Route, Not the Exam
CDA requires anyone applying as a Behavioral Analyst to enrol in an intensive training programme at the British University in Dubai, and to submit the university's training certificate with the application. The programme is a prerequisite: it is finished before the file goes to CDA, not after. The same applies to Assistant Psychologist, Assistant Behavioral Analyst and Learning Support Teacher.
Other categories follow the professional licensing examination route. Before purchasing exam preparation, confirm the current instructions for your title with CDA and the university. Ask for the next training intake, entry requirements and certificate arrangements; course availability does not establish your licensing eligibility.

Preparing for an exam this category does not sit
Behavioral Analyst is one of the four categories CDA sends to the British University in Dubai for an intensive training programme, and the training certificate is a prerequisite to applying. Revising for CDA's examination instead means arriving without a document the application needs.
Reading the qualification level off the title
CDA asks for a Master's degree for Behavioral Analyst. Of the 8 categories CDA publishes, 5 accept a Bachelor's degree and 4 a Master's (Special Education Teacher has a route at each level), and the job titles give you no way to tell which is which.
Assuming a related major will do
The major CDA names for Behavioral Analyst is Psychology or Education, with specialisation in Behavioral Analysis. A degree in an adjacent subject may still be accepted, but that is CDA's decision on your specific file rather than something to plan around.
Underestimating the experience bar
Behavioral Analyst requires one (1) year of experience. Fresh graduates work under supervision for a year.
Experience stated loosely
Experience letters without clear dates, role detail and recency create avoidable queries on an otherwise sound file — and the shorter the required period, the more precisely it has to be evidenced.
Leaving renewal too late

What CDA charges
CDA Licence Fees and Processing Times
CDA states it does not currently charge professionals a licence fee, and that this is temporary. The process still has costs. The British University in Dubai training programme your category requires is charged by the university. Questions About Behavioral Analyst Licensing
Are Behavioral Analyst and Assistant Behavioral Analyst the same category?
No. CDA lists separate categories with different academic requirements. Compare the full degree pathway and relevant behavioural-analysis study with the proposed title before selecting a training or application route.
Does BCBA certification replace a CDA licence?
No. BCBA is an external professional certification issued by the BACB. A CDA professional licence is a separate local approval. Include the credential accurately, but do not treat it as a substitute for the CDA application.
Is BCBA mandatory for every CDA behavioural-analysis applicant?
The published CDA qualification table does not by itself establish a universal BCBA requirement. Ask CDA about current additional conditions for your case and distinguish an employer’s recruitment preference from an authority licensing requirement.
How should I show behavioural-analysis specialisation?
Provide the complete award, major and transcript alongside relevant programme details. Keep additional coursework and certificates separate from the degree so the reviewer can see what each qualification actually covers.
Can I choose a category from an ABA therapist job advert?

Does completing BUiD training guarantee a licence?
No. The training certificate supports the application for the specified category. CDA still reviews the full file. Confirm the current category, course entry requirements and remaining application steps before paying.
How should I document mixed teaching and behavioural-analysis work?
Separate the roles, dates and duties instead of reporting one combined total. Explain the behavioural-analysis responsibilities and supervision where relevant, allowing CDA to assess which experience supports the requested category.
Does this Dubai guide also cover an Abu Dhabi application?
No. Abu Dhabi DCD publishes its own social care licensing requirements, including an Applied Behavior Analyst profession. Check the regulator for the actual workplace rather than applying Dubai CDA instructions to another emirate.
